If you can't study at Oxford, the university will come to you. For the first time in its 800-year history,Oxford University has announced that it will set up an offshore facility at Lavasa near Pune. Good news for the Indian students as the Oxford will now be open for them in their own country. John Hood, the vice chancellor of Oxford University, a part of the high level UK delegation visiting India made an announcement regarding the establishment of the Oxford University India Business Centre (OUIBC). The Oxford University India Business Centre (OUIBC) will be a part of the Business School at Oxford.

The offshore campus of Oxford University India Business Centre (OUIBC) which will be founded in Lavasa near Pune will also provide an executive management programme. John Hood, vice chancellor of Oxford University said that “We are going to develop a range of executive education programmes which would be delivered in India through a new facility at Lavasa, which will be visited by our faculty at Oxford”.

John Hood, vice chancellor of Oxford University said that “We are going to develop a range of executive education programmes which would be delivered in India through a new facility at Lavasa, which will be visited by our faculty at Oxford”.

The funds for this Oxford University Educational organization will be given by Ajit Gulabchand, chairman of Lavasa Corporation. Hood also said that “the university is committed to expand its collaboration with India which has enriched Oxford’s intellectual heritage for over 400 years.”

The primary objective of the Lavasa centre, however, will be to research and understand the "extraordinary developments" in the Indian business scenario in the recent years. The Centre aims to significantly increase the long-term research capability of India through the establishment of a research facility dually located in India and Oxford. The plan is to undertake joint research projects in partnership with leading businesses and elite academic institutions in India to identify and work on key issues of concern to Indian business. The Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford proposes to establish a Centre for Indian business studies – the Oxford University India Business Centre (working title).

The funds for this Oxford University Educational establishment will be offered by Ajit Gulabchand, chairman of Lavasa Corporation. He will endow a new chair, Ajit Gulabchand Professor of Indian Business Studies at the University of Oxford, to be based at the Said Business School at Oxford. On choosing India as the university's first offshore establishment, Hood said: "India has become increasingly important for Oxford and the world at large. And the university is committed to expand its collaboration with India which has enriched Oxford's intellectual heritage for over 400 years."

The Oxford India Business Forum presents a platform for global business leaders, academics, policy makers and sector specialists to debate some of the most pertinent issues affecting business, economic and social growth in this part of the world. The Forum is part of the activities of the India Business Centre that the University of Oxford will establish at the Saïd Business School.

It will do this in three ways; first, by creating the intellectual resources – acquiring data and information pertaining to Indian business and developing courses focused on Indian business studies. Second, by creating a resource pool of world class faculty to analyse the relevant information, extract the key lessons for Indian business, and distribute it both to decision-makers and to top academic publications. Third, by sponsoring episodes – to bring together essential decision-makers and business-people that deal with India-focused issues. This will promote discussion and aid in communicating views to the broader community.
